Clover Building Design is a small residential building design practice based in Brisbane, led by Aaron Clover. We design renovations, extensions, raise and builds and new homes across Brisbane and South East Queensland, and take on selected small commercial projects such as office and medical fit-outs and tilt-panel sheds. We draw every set ourselves and take each project through council and certification to the plans your builder builds from.

The person behind it
I'm Aaron. When you work with Clover you work with me, from the first site visit to the day the approved plans land with your builder.
I'm a QBCC-licensed building designer with around ten years' experience in residential building design, across renovations, extensions, new homes and other residential projects. Most of it is the ordinary, important stuff: making a tired post-war home work for a young family, finding the second storey in a Redlands brick house, getting a Queenslander up and built under without losing what made it worth keeping. I measure the house, draw the plans and sit in the meetings myself, so nothing is lost between the person who heard your brief and the person holding the pen.
As your building designer I'm usually the first consultant on the job, which means I stay with it the longest. I know the planning schemes and the certifiers, I know which engineers and planners to call, and I know what a builder needs on the page to price and build without guesswork. That is the job: turning what you want into a set of drawings everyone else can trust.
Our approach
Four things have to hold at once: the home has to work, it has to look right, it has to be a pleasure to live in, and it has to be buildable for what you can spend.
- Functionality
- A plan has to work on an ordinary Tuesday: where the light falls, where the bags land, how the breeze moves through, how the new work meets the old.
- Aesthetics
- Good proportion, honest materials and restraint. The homes we are proudest of are the ones that look like they were always meant to be there.
- Liveability
- Queensland homes are lived in outdoors as much as in. We design for shade, cross-ventilation and the seasons, not just the floor plan.
- Budget
- The best design is the one that gets built. We design to your budget from the first sketch and bring your builder in early enough to keep it honest.
Working together
A good home is a team effort, and someone has to hold the team together.
We work closely with you, your builder and the consultants a project needs: surveyors, engineers, town planners, energy assessors and building certifiers. We brief them, coordinate their work with the drawings and keep everyone working from the same set. If you already have a builder we are glad to work with them from the start; if you don't, we can introduce you to builders we trust across Brisbane, Redlands and Logan.
Every stage ends with a drawing package emailed to you before we meet, so you can look at it in your own time and come to the meeting with questions rather than first impressions. It is a simple habit, and it keeps the process calm.
